Abandoned as a baby, young Shasta has grown up in Calormen, a land far to the south of Narnia. When he learns that his adopted father plans to sell him into slavery, Shasta runs away with the talking horse, Bree, and the two friends set off on a thrilling journey to the north, Narnia and freedom.
